STAR WARS Book Explains Why that Stormtrooper Hit His Head in A NEW HOPE

Warning: spoilers follow for Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View.

Remember when a random stormtrooper bumped his head on a door in Star Wars: A New Hope? There was a reason for that, and it’s detailed in the new anthology book Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View. The collection of short stories shows what’s happening during Episode IV from the perspectives of non-primary characters—like the head-banging stormtrooper. “Bump” by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker explains the trooper, TD-110, stumbled because he had a revelation.

TD-110 had just returned to the Death Star from a mission on Tatooine. He was part of the squad tasked with finding R2-D2 and C-3PO. He answered the intruder alarm triggered by the rebels and went to the detention block with other troopers to make arrests. It was then that a fog cleared and he remembered he did find the droids he was looking for, but he was tricked by an old man fanning his fingers.

Recalling what happened when he was under the influence of Obi-Wan‘s mind trick distracted TD-110 and he cracked his head on the threshold on the way into the control room. Because of course he did. Moments later, he recognized the droids that escaped him, R2-D2 and C-3PO, aboard the Death Star.

Behind the scenes, the actor portraying the trooper, Laurie Goode, had an upset stomach and wasn’t at one hundred percent when he banged his head during one of the takes.
