Why STAR WARS Fans Are in Tears Over the New CLONE WARS Trailer

It sometimes feels like Star Wars devotees will never again agree on anything, but on the first day of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Lucasfilm announced a project that is earning universal accolades from all across the galaxy far, far away. How did they do it? All it took was a huge surprise fans have long wished for, but definitely did not see coming–the beloved animated series The Clone Wars will return for a final season. It was such an unexpected shock it left some in attendance weeping tears of joy, but why is one season of an old show such an emotional moment for some? Today’s Nerdist News has the answers.

At a panel celebrating the tenth anniversary of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show’s supervising director Dave Filoni dropped a totally unexpected trailer announcing a final 12-episode run that will give closure the viewers feared they would never see. It was such a surprise our own managing editor and Star Wars expert Amy Ratcliffe had no idea it was coming–and she was hosting the panel!

The show, which ran from 2008 to 2013, takes place between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and features some of the most beloved, compelling characters in Star Wars history. However it was abruptly cancelled following Disney’s purchase of the franchise, despite two more seasons worth of episodes have already been written. So for fans who were left wondering about the fate of some of their favorite heroes, they will now have a chance to see the story all the way through, something they thought might never happen.

The only thing that would have been more shocking than this announcement would have been if Star Wars fans weren’t overcome with emotion.

What do you hope to see in this final season? Use the Force…of your fingers and type your thoughts into the comments below.
