And, yeah, I say a Jedi-less Star Wars would be viable. They’ve already built, or are in the process of building, their world. We know what’s up about Jedi and Sith. It’s time to see some more points of view within the fiction besides Jedi and Sith or clones and droids. Those are classic struggles of good and evil. It’s time to see a story of ambivalence towards those sides, another aspect of living in a world of distinct good and bad. The Clone Wars series alluded to it from time to time but this is a project that needs devoted direction and a clear message of being something different.
and besides, Jedi are like .1% of the population in all of Star Wars Space. ready for this.

JC, you know your audience. Sure, we’d all like peace on Earth, Goodwill to men. But a Nerf Gun? Pass it over! (Whumph! Whumph! Whumph!)
Having Fett steal the plans is stupid. He’d be an enemy of the Empire, and having him back in Empire would make no sense.
It would make a lot more sense to have Fett as a villain. He kills someone brutally, it plants the seed for the whole “no disintegrations” line, etc. etc…
Bobba is a mercenary bounty hunter. He works for whoever pays him. Besides, who said the Empire would even know he stole the plans? Part of getting away with the crime is not letting the person you stole from know who you are. For over 30 years, he made us think rebel spies stole the plans. He’s that good.
Mercenarism isn’t that simple. As far as the overarching story goes, it’s childish logic to say, “Meh, it could happen, he works for the highest bidder,” because sure, maybe that’s possible, but that’s not the only thing at play; making it out so that the Rebels are the highest bidder completely undermines how desperate they’re supposed to be at the beginning of the series.
Fett is much more frightening if kept to the established story: One of few bounty hunters who has scored a retainer with Vader. That doesn’t mean he can’t work with Jabba in the meantime, but it DOES mean he couldn’t work against the Empire’s interests.
I don’t want Fett being turned into a hero. Just because someone’s cool, it doesn’t mean they have to turn out to be good.
He’s not a “hero”, he’s a protagonist. Stealing the plans isn’t necessarily a heroic deed. The Rebel Alliance was loaded. After all, isn’t that how Luke convinced Han to rescue Leia, by offering him a LOT of money, enough to settle his debt with Jabba? If they could pay him that much to rescue Leia, why couldn’t they pay Boba the same or MORE to steal the plans, which would arguably be more valuable and more important?
The first movie already established that the rebels stole the plans, why create a second plot line that is a rehash of that when instead they can immortalize that first battle on film? It makes a lot more sense. I like the idea that they would take one basically throwaway line from the opening crawl to create an entirely new movie.
A Star Wars prequel done right.
I think a Star Wars movie can work, sans Jedi… because there are Star Wars games that work sans Jedi.
I was thinking who would want to steal the plans, then the video reminded me that the rebels stole the plans from the Empire prior to New Hope. So that would make sense. Show how that happened. Having Bobba be the one in charge of the theft is unexpected. The movie could also show the Rebel victory alluded to in the opening crawl. Now I’m excited.
