STAR WARS SPECIAL: C-3PO # 1 Preview Teases the Origins of That Famous Red Arm

The greatest mystery of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is about to be solved: Marvel Comics and Lucasfilm will reveal the origin of C-3PO’s red arm in the upcoming one-shot Star Wars Special: C-3PO # 1.

Of course, this red arm is only a big deal in the mind of C-3PO himself. Particularly vain for a droid, Threepio went so far as to think that that Han Solo wouldn’t even recognize him with his new red appendage. But we’re still a little curious as to what happened to his old arm.

For comic book fans, the biggest draw of Star Wars Special: C-3PO # 1 is the reunion of the creative team behind DC’s classic Starman series from the ‘90s. Writer James Robinson and artist Tony Harris have crafted the tale about how Star Wars’ most famous protocol droid lost his arm and gained a new one. This issue was actually supposed to come out closer to The Force Awakens premiere last year, but it was pushed back three months.

Star Wars Special C-3PO cover

Marvel Comics has released the first four pages of Star Wars Special: C-3PO # 1, which don’t feature any lettering… but you can bet that C-3PO isn’t going to shut up during his solo adventure. R2-D2 is noticeably absent in these pages, but a few very familiar looking droids from the Original Trilogy are present with C-3PO. And it looks as if the droids are stranded on a desolate planet.
