It’s funny how appealing the simple things in life can be, whether they’re found on the streets of New York City or in a galaxy far, far away. Take, for example, the title sequence of comedian Louis C.K.‘s FX comedy series Louie (returning for its fifth season on April 8th), in which a lone man gets off the subway, schleps over to a local pizza joint, enjoys a slice of za, and then takes the stage at the Comedy Cellar nightclub, where he amuses the patrons with his observations on life and love in the Big Apple. Pretty basic stuff, right? Yet set to the tune of Errol Brown and Tony Wilson’s 1973 hit “Brother Louie” (as interpreted by singer Ian Lloyd and producer Reggie Watts), it’s one of the most effective mood-setters on TV today.

Of course, we here at Nerdist have our own version of Louie. In Chewie, another hairy, gentle, often misunderstood giant walks the mean streets of NYC — Chewbacca, the Wookiee co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon and hero to freedom-loving people across the galaxy. Ruby Rinekso stars as the smuggler-turned-rebel-turned-standup comic. The multitalented filmmaker is also responsible for the short’s costume and production design.
