STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL Gets Woke with The Force

It’s that special time of year—when the best thing on the internet starts making its rounds a litany of Worst Things Ever lists. I’m talking, of course, about the Star Wars Holiday Special. If you haven’t had you annual rewatch yet, allow this wonderful trailer remix from the folks at Vulture to get you ready not only for that, but also for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. You may recognize some things.

While nothing about Star Wars: The Force Awakens screams Christmas in my brain—minus all those Judeo-Christian themes—it is pretty fun to see a film I so closely associate with the holiday season given a little update and a better reason for being thrown around the internet than “have you seen this total train wreck of a thing from the 80s?” It has been, for so long, the ugly rejected child of the Star Wars universe and to see the internet embrace it in the post-George Lucas years for its incredible campy badness has been fun.

Vulture team members Diane Bullock and Mike Schuster are the brains behind this particular remix which is part of a series that the company posts with New York Magazine every Monday. You can also check out “If The Hunger Games Came Out In 1992,” and “Peggy Hill Sings Nicki Minaj” if you’re looking for some more entertainment in this arena.

What would you like to see them remix in the future? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
