How Reylo Could Save the STAR WARS Fandom

It doesn’t matter what you think of the new Star Wars sequel trilogy or the standalone films, or whether you find The Last Jedi to be an amazing masterpiece or a betrayal of the franchise, there’s no denying there’s a great disturbance in the Force when it comes to fans of the galaxy far, far away. But let’s look ahead to 2019. We’ll get the first ever live-action series Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, on Disney’s new streaming site, as well as the ninth and final installment in the Skywalker family saga with Episode IX. Could one pair be what brings the light and dark sides together? Could Reylo be the key to saving Star Wars fandom?

On today’s Nerdist News, host Jessica Chobot looks at the one thing fans seemed to agree on in 2018: the shipping of Rey and Kylo Ren, whose intergalactic connection in The Last Jedi led to one of Tumblr’s most popular pairings this year. We say “seemed” because some fans are, of course, opposed to the pairing; some even verbally attack and threaten Reylo shippers. But for those who support Rey and Kylo Ren, why is it such a hit? And is it possible that the two characters’ potential to be each other’s greatest enemy and greatest love might be enough to unite not just them, but fans on both sides of the Star Wars split?

It remains to be seen if Reylo will really happen, let alone if it could reunite the fans. But at least we can all agree on one thing: everybody liked shirtless Kylo.

What do you think? Will Reylo save the fanbase-o? Tell us in the comments below why you either want to see them end up together or see them tear each other apart.
