STAR WARS Epic Yarns: May the Felt Be With You

The best thing about Star Wars fandom is the creativity the movies inspire and how people translate that into their own universe. When it comes to felting elaborate scenes that rival the building of the Death Star, a talent for crafting always helps as does and affinity for cuteness.

Jack and Holman Wang, twin brothers behind Cozy Classics have a new series of books called Star Wars Epic Yarns that feature the most iconic Star Wars scenes from the trilogy, all made out of felt. Each book retells the Star Wars saga using hand-felted scenes and focuses on 12 child-friendly words that act as primers for learning and parent involvement in storytelling.

The figures are needle-felted by hand, which involves stabbing loose wool roving with a barbed needle. Once the wool gets firmer it takes shape into a figure. Each figure takes between 20-60 hours to make and the details are stunning. Details like hair and clothing are important in capturing the essence of the characters and make you feel like you’re part of the scene. In the Cantina photo you can almost feel Han shoot first…almost.

The amount of time and care that is taken is obvious in each stunning photo. Through all the foam and felt you can feel the reverence and respect the artists have for the original movies. These books are a great start for parents introducing children to the movies and for fans who love the art and detail of Star Wars. Check out the gallery below and may the Felt be with you!
