Bad Lip Reading has struck again with another musical send up of a classic Star Wars moment. The latest video sets the clock back over forty years to give us the Death Star anthem we never knew we wanted. And this video found a way to make Grand Moff Tarkin even creepier than his CGI counterpart in Rogue One. Even when it’s a parody, Leia is just not having any of it.
The title of “It’s Not a Moon” of course paraphrases Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s famous “that’s no moon” quote. And old Ben gets quite a few close ups as he endlessly repeats those words. But the video truly belongs to Tarkin and Leia, as he hilariously acts like a weirdo while she insults him every step of the way.
During the second half of the song, Tarkin and Vader’s conference with the Imperial officers is also mined for humor. Within the context of these clips, Tarkin actually hates all of his underlings and he’s more than happy to let Vader off the leash. This catchy tune makes us long for a deliriously unhinged Star Wars musical. Given how many videos they’ve already done, Bad Lip Reading is eventually going to make that wish a reality.
