STAR TREK’s Original Crew Recast as Cats in New Illustrated Book

Captain’s Log, Stardate 99999.9. Meow meow meow……meow. Meow…..meow meow meow. Meow meow. Meow meow….meow meow meow…..meow.

We never thought anyone could fill the shoes of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, but Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have made for perfect, younger versions of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. But in the words of our Constitution, might we imagine actors even “more perfect” in those roles than the four of them? Impossible, you say? Then you haven’t considered what the original crew of the Enterprise would look like as cats. But don’t worry, there’s a new illustrated book to do that for you, and it boldly goes where no felines have gone before.

Star Trek Cats from Chronicle Books features the art of Jenny Parks, who has purrfectly replaced the human cast of the original Star Trek with a bunch of adorable kitties. Now that we think of it, it really would have been a huge help for all of the “redshirt” crew members to have had nine lives anytime they beamed down on a mission with the captain.

The book depicts memorable scenes and moments from the series, like “Kirk in the Captain’s chair” and “Spock offering his Vulcan wisdom,” although it’s kind of hard for us to take a cat seriously when it says, “Energize.” Every time the Enterprise passes a star, the whole crew would just rush to claw at the sunny spot by the window.

You can order the 64-page hardcover book for your favorite feline-obsessed Trekkie for $14.95 here, and they say it will beam up to you within two or three days.

What breed of cat would you have cast in each role? Cuddle up in our comments section below and tell us what type of kitties you would have picked.
