STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Casting, a GAME OF THRONES Event, and More TV News

Happy middle of the week, a.k.a. how is it already Wednesday? I’m here to help the time pass by even more quickly with all sorts of television news. Today’s TV-Cap has a casting update for Star Trek: Discovery, word on Lin-Manuel Miranda producing The Kingkiller Chronicles, Amazon’s choice for the title role in The Man in the High Castle, and more.

Crew Call. CBS’ Star Trek: Discovery has made some announcements in the casting department. First of all, they’ve confirmed Michelle Yeoh will be in the series as a Starfleet captain. Secondly, they’ve announced Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp will also hop aboard. Jones will play a new alien species in the Trek universe, Lt. Saru. Rapp is set to portray astromycologist Lt. Stamets. Design Evolution. The identity of Doctor Alchemy on The Flash has been revealed, but don’t worry, I’m not going to give it away here. Nah, I’m just gonna share some cool concept art by Andy Poon featuring the character’s costume design by Maya Mani. Poon works on concepts for basically all of the Arrow-verse series and frequently posts cool art—like the above illustration—on Instagram. [CBR]

Pilot to Launch. Original kids series Sid & Marty Krofft’s Sigmund and the Sea Monsters made it through Amazon’s pilot program and is going to be a full-fledged series. The live-action show is based on Sid & Marty Krofft’s series from the ’70s. It centers on brothers Johnny and Scotty as they try to keep the sea monster Sigmund safe from a sea monster hunter. When the comedic show for children drops, it will be available to Amazon Prime subscribers.

Another Round. Syfy has renewed Z Nation for season four. The next season will have 13 episodes and drop in 2017. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Serious. Stakes. FX is bringing Taboo into the world on January 10. Tom Hardy’s the co-creator and star of the drama about a man who returns home to London from Africa to find betrayal and darkness. New brief promos seem to show both timelines and feature plenty of beautifully lit sets. You can watch more 30 second promos for Taboo at Slashfilm.

Westeros in L.A. Hey, Los Angeles residents, this one’s for you. To celebrate the home release of Game of Thrones season six, HBO is putting on an event at Hollywood and Highland on December 9-10. The space will have photo opps and behind-the-scenes exhibits featuring bonus content and a VR experience. Get all the details here.

Yes, Please. Lin-Manuel Miranda keeps expanding his resume; he’s just added a new producer for television and maybe a film credit to it. He’s on board to adapt Patrick Rothfuss’ fantasy trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicles for TV and film and also a stage production, because why not? The sprawling books—two of three installments of the trilogy are published—offer plenty o’ characters and plots to pick from, so we’ll keep you posted on what happens. [Nerdist]

High Role Cast. Amazon has found the actor for the title role in The Man in the High Castle: Stephen Root. You can see him in character in the above season two tease. The entire second season will arrive on December 16. [IGN]

What Happened to Arnold? We found out Ford’s secret about Arnold in the most recent installment of Westworld, but how did it go down? We have a fate in mind, and you can watch it right this way—but beware, it’s NSFW and spoilers abound.

Questions. On a more serious Westworld note, there are a lot of questions for the season one finale to tackle when it airs on December 4. The showrunners have said they’re planning to wrap up as much as possible, so fingers crossed they’ll answer these 10 questions.

Aliens and Stuff. Tuesday night brought the second part of the Heroes vs. Aliens Arrow-verse crossover; read Joseph’s recap of The Flash. We also have recaps of the latest Scream Queens and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for you to put in front of your eyes.

What questions do you have for Westworld? Share them with me in the comments.
