STAR TREK and Corgis, Because What More Do You Want From Us, Internet?

Thursday marks the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, one of the most seminal works of science fiction ever to grace the screen, big or small. Today also marks the 10th anniversary (give or take) of our collective obsession with corgis, the stumpy-legged, smiley-faced wunderkinds of the four-legged world. So naturally, the folks at ThinkGeek have combined the two into something special: internet, I give you a bunch of cosplaying corgis reenacting classic moments from Star Trek, the way Gene Roddenberry intended it (we’re assuming).

“But why,” you may ask, “would you combine corgis and Star Trek together?” (“I also don’t understand joy and smiling,” you also say, but let’s not dwell on that.) Well, let’s break this down scientifically, shall we? You see, when you combine the maximum nerdery (N^m) of Star Trek (S*) with the power of corgis (C^p) and multiply by memeability (Mâ„“), solving for jovial obsession yield (jOy∗) you come up with a pretty astounding number:

jOy∗ = ((N^m (S*)) + C^p)Mℓ

jOy∗ = ∞

So it’s pretty easy to understand why ThinkGeek did it and we had to write about it, right? THE LIMIT of joy on cosplaying corgis recreating iconic moments from Star Trek DOES NOT EXIST! Beam me up for maximum joy, Scotty!! (And get me some Earl Grey, hot, while we’re at it.)

What do you think of this incredible work of narrative art? Are these dogs the best dogs in all of space? Do they deserve a treat and a belly rub? Want some more dog math? Tweet #DogMath at Kyle Hill (@Sci_Phile) for much, much more!

And while we’re at it, make sure to check out why transporters are THE BEST tech out there!
