SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Trailer Intros Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham!

After six (and counting) big screen outings centering on the misadventures of different iterations of Peter Parker, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse promised us that Hollywood would finally be lending the spotlight to a web-slinger of a different name: Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore). And sure, Miles will indeed be the centerpiece of the forthcoming animated superhero comedy, co-written by the venerable Phil Lord. But this second look at the feature shows us he’s hardly the only new Spider-Man who’ll be commanding our attention this time around.

Yes, we finally have a Miles Morales movie—something fans have been asking for for quite some time. But as it turns out, we also finally have a Spider-Gwen movie; the likewise beloved character shows up exactly halfway through the trailer (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) to assert that Miles and his overeager mentor, a post-prime Peter Parker (voiced by Jake Johnson), won’t have the heroing all to themselves. But it doesn’t stop there. Soon after Gwen, we meet more Spider-folk: the shadowy Spider-Man Noir (voiced by, yes, Nicolas Cage); Peni Parker (voiced by Kimiko Glenn) and her robotic Spider-suit; and, weirdest of all, the anthropomorphic pig Spider-Ham (voiced by comedian John Mulaney).

What brings the Spider family together is a curious merging of all their disparate universes, and what bands them together is the quest to right this wrong in the spice-time continuum (and, probably, to take down a larger-than-life foe or two). Evidently, it’s not only the face behind the red mask that’ll distinguish this Spider-Man film from those we’ve seen before; Into the Spider-Verse looks a hell of a lot stranger, geekier, and goofier than the works of Sam Raimi, Marc Webb, or the MCU have been. In other words, it looks like a ton of fun.

What do you think of this new twist on the big screen’s Spidey? Let us know!
