Could Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi Have a Secret Cameo in SOLO?

It’s no secret Ewan McGregor wants to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequels, and it’s something that many fans want as well. Last year, it was rumored that Lucasfilm is developing an Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone film potentially for director Stephen Daldry. It seems like a no-brainer to simply invite McGregor back into the fold or else risk the wrath the Star Wars faithful. Within the last few weeks, McGregor looked suspiciously like Obi-Wan with the return of his signature beard while showing off the results of an intense workout regime. That’s why today’s Nerdist News is taking a look at the possibility that we’ll see McGregor make a cameo appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Join host and renowned nerf herder, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down an intriguing theory about how an appearance by Obi-Wan could work within Solo. This is simply speculation for now, and there’s little evidence at the moment, but we do know that Solo is heading back into production soon for some additional reshoots. If Disney and Lucasfilm want to add some excitement for the movie, the return of Obi-Wan could certainly do the job.

But how would that work when we know Han Solo never met Obi-Wan until that fateful day in Mos Eisley’s cantina? The original Star Wars made it pretty clear they didn’t know each other, but Revenge of the Sith established Chewbacca fought alongside Yoda at the end of the Clone Wars. So there’s a very real possibility that Chewie met Obi-Wan as well. It could be that the Wookiee was the one who introduced Han to Obi-Wan without revealing how he knew the Jedi Master.

Alternately, the Star Wars comics by Marvel have established that Obi-Wan spent years on Tatooine undermining the reign of Jabba the Hutt while protecting Luke Skywalker and his family from afar. Given Han and Chewie’s history with the big giant space slug, we wouldn’t be shocked at all if Obi-Wan and Chewbacca encountered each other while dealing with Jabba, which would leave Han in the dark for their first meeting in A New Hope.

What do you think about our Obi-Wan theory? Will we see him in Solo: A Star Wars Story? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
