SNOWPIERCER Director’s Next Film Pairs Tilda Swinton with a Giant Pig-Rhino Monster

Tilda Swinton is an international treasure–a strange, wonderful, unique treasure–which is why we look forward to anything and everything she does. And the weirder she gets to be in a movie, the better. So you can imagine how excited we’ve been ever since we heard about her reteaming with Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-ho for the new Netflix movie Okja, whose first teaser trailer is as bizarre and mesmerizing as we hoped it would.

The intense first peek involves Swinton talking to a crowd about how she took nature and science and “synthesized” them, to make what appears to be some sort of giant pig-rhino creature, which we’re going to guess is slightly different than your typical pig-rhino hybrid.

The brief teaser is short on details, but long on weirdness. However, the description from Netflix shows that this trailer only hints at the strange story to come.

“Meet Mija, a young girl who risks everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend – a massive animal named Okja. Following her across continents, the coming-of-age comedy drama sees Mija’s horizons expand in a way one never would want for one’s children, coming up against the harsh realities of genetically modified food experimentation, globalization, eco-terrorism, and humanity’s obsession with image, brand and self-promotion.”

Okay then, there’s certainly a lot to take in there. But we can’t help but focus on the fact this is a “comedy drama.” This is going to be funny? Sure, why not!

So what the hell is this thing going to be about? Is this trailer the most “normal” look at this movie we’ll get? We were excited for this when all we knew was Tilda Swinton and Bong Joon-ho were working together again, but after this bizarre trailer and its pig-rhino, we’re all on this weird looking film.

Unfortunately we have to wait awhile, because the movie, which also stars Giancarlo Esposito, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, and Steven Yeun, won’t be available until June 28th.
