SKULL ISLAND: REIGN OF KONG Ride Puts You in the Big Guy’s Face

For anyone who’s been to Universal Studios in the last few years, you’ll know there’s a King Kong 3D area of the back lot tour where you and Kong fight dinosaurs, just like in Peter Jackson’s movie. It’s very well done, but for those of us who grew up with the animatronic King Kong section–which burned down in Hollywood close to a decade ago–it seems slightly less wondrous. Now, a new attraction at Universal Studios Orlando called Skull Island: Reign of Kong will bring back the giant, real gorilla.

On the Universal Studios blog, a video was shared (above) that has Mike West, EP of Universal Creative and dead ringer for Matt Damon’s uncle, taking us deep into a dark cavern that will be the climax of the new ride. While trackless vehicles and individual drivers provide for unique, random encounters along the way, the end of the ride lets you come face to face with Kong himself–in the form of a three-story-tall animatronic figure that is so lifelike you’ll be able to feel his hot ape breath on your petrified faces.

Kong-Things

The post also purports that as we near the end of the expedition we’ll be overcome by the emotional power of Kong. Is peeing your pants an emotion? I’m afraid of giant things, even if they are just robots. His roar will “reverberate your whole body.” You guys, my body is doesn’t need reverberation, thank you. And we also don’t know if Kong will be a friend or foe in this ride, but my heart tells me he’ll end up not killing us. Skull Island: Reign of Kong is going to be terrifying. I’m in!

The ride is set to open sometime this summer. Get your Depends ready. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Here’s what we know so far about the Skull Island movie!
