Adult Swim has become the best place on television with their strange and irreverent programming featuring some of the funniest people in Hollywood today. They’ve also done two of the weirdest things of all time, thanks to Adam Scott: The Greatest Event in Television History. It’s a mockumentary that follows the making said event, which in October of 2012 was a shot-for-shot remake of the opening title sequence of the 1980s private detective series Simon & Simon starring Scott and Jon Hamm. Then, earlier this month, they did it again with the making of a shot-for-shot remake of the opening title sequence of another detective series, Hart to Hart, this time with Scott, Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. Scott has promised that there will be more in the future. I’m holding out hope for Quantum Leap.
YouTube user eji313 has gone ahead and done a side-by-side comparison of both sequences. It’s pretty amazing to see just how accurate they are.
Please make the Mannix re-make very soon! Mannix was very much ahead of its time with violence, sex and hillbillies and crooked cops he’s forced to fight for his life. I know that Mike Connors, the original actor who played Mannix, has been pitching a new Mannix series for years where is the producer not actor. Kind of like how Sir Roger Moore is the producer for the modern tv series of The Saint.
“Quantum Leap” – indeed!!! But there’s so much more….”Magnum P.I.”, “Barnaby Jones”, but “Mannix”…for sure!!! Heck, why not go all the way and re-do entire episodes?
