Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam since 2014, and yet he’s not officially a part of the upcoming Shazam movie starring Zachary Levi in the starring role. Producer Hiram Garcia recently told Collider the plan to give Black Adam his own movie before pitting him against Shazam in the future is still in place. However, the latest TV ad for Shazam has some additional hints that make it seem like our Black Adam theory is still on the table. Today’s Nerdist News breaks it all down.
Join host and Mary Marvel alternate, Jessica Chobot, as she casts the spotlight on Doctor Sivana, as played by Mark Strong in Shazam. In the comics, Sivana puts the sniveling into sniveling villain. He can be a formidable foe, depending upon the writer, but Sivana’s greatest weapon is his mind, not his strength. And yet in the new Shazam ad, Sivana has the ability to block a punch from the world’s mightiest mortal. Another preview image shows Sivana’s lightning powers in action.
What’s the connection between Sivana’s new powers and Black Adam? We think Sivana is drawing those enhancements from Black Adam himself. The tomb of Black Adam may also play a large part in giving Sivana the chance to surpass Shazam in their upcoming conflict.
If Black Adam is established as the source of Sivana’s powers, then it opens the door for his own solo movie and his battle with Shazam. It’s not far fetched to suggest that a post-credits scene could feature Johnson in a surprise cameo as Black Adam. But we’ll have to wait until April 2019 to see.
