Shadow Mewtwo Confirmed for Wii U Version of POKKEN TOURNAMENT

A few days ago, footage from the Japanese arcade game Pokkén Tournament emerged that showed a dark variation of Mewtwo as a boss character, and then speculation started flying. Today, some questions were answered, as it was announced that this new Mewtwo is actually named Shadow Mewtwo, and will be included in the Wii U version of Pokkén Tournament, which is set to hit shelves in Spring 2016. Watch the reveal video above.

So now Shadow Mewtwo has a name, but there are still so many mysteries that remain. Will this new version of Mewtwo find its way into the main Pokémon games? Perhaps Shadow Mewtwo could later become Mega Mewtwo Z in Pokémon Z, the rumored upcoming enhanced remake of Pokemon X and Y? Or, Shadow Mewtwo will just break the naming scheme of Mewtwo’s Mega Evolutions and remain as-is?

That’s not outside the realm of possibility, considering the version-specific Mewtwo Mega Evolutions found in X and Y. This theory is also reinforced by the aforementioned gameplay footage from the arcade game, which you can watch below. At about 33 seconds into the video, Mewtwo appears to transform (or Mega Evolve?) into Shadow Mewtwo, and if you pause at the right time, you can see the Mega Evolution icon:

Despite the convincing evidence, this is all just speculation that has been confirmed by no official sources. It is also very possible that, like the shadow Pokémon from Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, Shadow Mewtwo is separate from the main games and will remain confined to the world of Pokkén Tournament.

Check out Pokkén Tournament gameplay footage featuring Shadow Mewtwo below, and let us know in the comments what you think about the possibility of Shadow Mewtwo in other Pokémon titles.
