“Selfie Rat” Is the Latest New York City Rodent to Do Human Stuff

We’ve all woken up to find strange pictures on our phones, but usually despite how crazy they might be, they almost always seem to make a bit of sense. They at least seem possible, but that wasn’t the case for the guy in the video below, who woke up in the subway to discover a rat using his cell phone to take a selfie.

Here’s the gist of the story: some guy fell asleep in the President Street subway station in Crown Heights and another guy noticed a rat on him, so he started filming the silly situation. The rat got a hold of a the first guy’s phone and managed to somehow snap a photo, which triggered the flash and aroused the sleeping man from his slumber. He immediately realized there was a rat on him, so he frantically shook it off and walked away.

That’s according to Don Richards, who was visiting Brooklyn and filmed the video. For skeptics who think this clip is rife with illegitimacy, we suspect this rodent might be related to Pizza Rat, which would explain its uncanny ability to partake in activity usually reserved for bipedal humans.

Then again, the flash doesn’t appear to go off in the video, so maybe your suspicions are justified. However, this is a fun thing that brings joy to our hearts, so we’re not going to put it under too much scrutiny, and instead just enjoy it for what it is: a neat video that has brightened our day a little bit.

See the photo in question above, watch the clip below, and let us know in the comments if you believe in Selfie Rat.
