SCREAM QUEENS Recap: Lovin the D

Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for Scream Queens. Proceed with caution if you’re not caught up yet.

You know what I’m loving right now? How delightful Scream Queens has been all season. With the finale set for next week, things have been tied up in a much tighter package than they were in the debut season. In last night’s episode, “Lovin the D,” all three killers ran amok, the girls got a daytime television gig, and the Green Meanie squad lost a member at the end of the night. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get into it.

With the mystery of the Green Meanies’ respective identities solved, the trio has time to get down to important decisions… like who gets to kill Chanel. After a meeting of the Meanie minds (set up by Hester), the group decided that Hoeffel’s reason for revenge was the strongest, despite Wes fighting by the skin of his teeth for the honor to avenge his daughter’s current mental state. Meanwhile, all Cascade wants is to protect Chanel No. 3 from the massacre.

The Chanels, of course, aren’t knowledgeable of any of this because they’re too busy preparing for a guest appearance on their favorite daytime talk show, Lovin the D. When the star Doctor Scarlett Lovin (Brooke Shields) shows up at the hospital after hearing about their miraculous work, the girls are faced with something they weren’t expecting: taking the MCAT. Lovin wants the Chanels to make history by performing surgery live on her talk show, but the only problem is that they need to be official medical students for it to be legal.

While Chanel No. 5 sets out to actually study for the exam, Chanel begs Dr. Holt to help her cheat. The plotting is interrupted when Holt’s unpredictable hand tries to strangle Chanel. In fear, she runs away and winds up in a room with Nurse Hoeffel. With an ulterior motive to keep Chanel in her sights, Hoeffel convinces her to stay at the institute and follow through with taking the exam. To give her that extra boost of confidence, Hoeffel tells Chanel the secret to the MCAT: all of the answers are B.

Despite sorting out the Chanel-killing plan, Wes spends time trying to convince Cascade to back him up when he makes a go at Chanel’s life before Hoeffel does. Cascade agrees, especially considering the likelihood that Hoeffel or the authorities would think he was responsible for the murders because he was related to the first victim. Of course, the plan doesn’t exactly play out in Wes’ favor, but we will get to that in a minute.

After Dr. Lovin shows up early, the girls’ exam is sped up to that night. After sitting there seemingly screwing around for all eight hours of the test, the results are in: the girls passed! Sure, Chanel and No. 3 cheated by receiving the answers from Holt and Cascade via email, but Chanel No. 5 passed it on her own… and nobody cares.

Now that they’re official medical students, the squad is ready to appear on Lovin the D, but not before Doctor Lovin is accidentally poisoned by a pot of coffee that was meant for Chanel. But the show must go on! The girls and Holt hit the small screen to perform the first-ever surgery on a day time talk show. Chanel steals the show and convinces the producer to give the Chanels their own show. Finally, Chanel’s dreams are coming true and everything is awesome.

But you know who things aren’t so awesome for? Wes. His plan to get Cascade to join forces with him and turn on Hoeffel backfire in a big way. Instead of following through with the plan, Cascade and Hoeffel link up to get rid of Wes. After being back for only two episodes, Wes Gardner is no more. His burned body (which is cooked alive in fry oil) seems like good news to everyone, especially the editor, who’s been hanging around to get to the bottom of what happened to one of his writers. Now that everyone thinks the Green Meanie is officially dead, they’re all ready to take a breather.

While all of this is going on, Zayday is still trapped at Jane Hollis’ (Cascade’s mom’s house). Will she be able to escape in the finale? We can’t wait to find out! Dean Munsch at least knows she’s missing now, so that’s a start.
