Scream At a Wall: Let Metal and Hardcore Reign in 2016

It’s a new year and a new chance to wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit. It’s time once again for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We dug through the crates to find the new tunes we think you need to spin and rage to. The front end of 2016 looks to be an embarrassment of riches with so many awesome albums hitting in January and February. Strap in kiddies, it’s time to rock.

The Thermals have a new record due in March, so we’re already being treated to the first single. If you love The Thermals–and come on, who doesn’t love The Thermals–then you’ll love this song. It’s got all their sticky sweet pop sensibilities mixed with their patented raw punk and garage roots. Check it out below; we dare you to not sing along.

If you need some hardcore brutality in your new year, check out Backslider. These guys grind super hard. Their incredibly titled album, Motherfucker, comes out next week, but you can stream the whole thing right now. If 2016 is already pissing you off, put this baby on and let your ears bleed. It’ll help, I promise. (via Noisey)

Seven Sisters of Sleep have a new album coming on February 5 and it sounds like it’s going to be a horrific nightmare (you know, in a good way). They just premiered a new track titled “Gutter” and it’s a dark, doom ridden affair. You can pre-order the album from Relapse Records right now, so go do that.

You always know what you are going to get with a new Exmortus album. Ride Forth is the band’s latest effort and it’s out now via Prosthetic Records. It’s basically the soundtrack to a Frank Frazetta painting, the kind of album you listen to armed with a battle axe. Ride Forth shreds, from start to finish, which should come as a shock to nobody. Put on your suit of armor and check out the track “Relentless” below.

I’m a firm believer that songs should be under 3 minutes or over 7. Eight Bells embrace the latter with their new track “Hold My Breath.” It’s spacey and doom filled, soaring high and crushing low during its epic run time. Their new album is out on February 12 from Battleground Records and from the sounds of things, it’s gonna be a worthy addition to your record collection. (via Brooklyn Vegan)

If your New Year’s resolution was to insert more grimy, thrashing punk rock into your ears, then you need to check out Classhole. These guys are a super group made up for former hardcore and metal bands, but instead of making more of that stuff they opted to go dirtier and more low-fi. This is punk rock in every sense and just what the doctor ordered, assuming your doctor listens to bands like F-Minus. Here’s your prescription: listen to Classhole. (via Noisey)

That’s it for this week. Go forth; throw some horns up and keep spinning in the black circle. If there’s a metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, or any other core song you think the world needs to hear, sound off in the comments below. \m/
