Scream at a Wall: GAYTHEIST, WITHERED, RUSSIAN CIRCLES, and More.

Wipe the blood from your teeth and get in the pit: it’s time for a recap of this week’s best hardcore, metal, and punk rock. We dug through the record crates to find the new tunes we think you need to spin and rage to. Looking for some new death metal to bring into your life? Got you covered. Need some grindcore to get your wedding reception off on the right foot? Say no more. Strap in kiddies, it’s time to rock.

Okay, so maybe this doesn’t count as a new track, but this week we learned that a new Russian Circles album is on the horizon, and that is cause for celebration. Titled Guidance, this is the band’s sixth studio album and you can hear a teaser of it below. Yes, it’s only 45 seconds, but 45 seconds of new Russian Circles is better than hours of other bands. We’re pumped, people! So pumped!

Big Business is the perfect band to fill that dark, sludgy hole in your heart. Fuzzy, heavy, and laced with a gruff melody, “Father’s Day” is an excellent example of what this band does so well. You can’t help but bob your head and pump your fist to this stuff. Hell, if you’re anything like me, maybe you’ll shake your booty a little too. Big Business, for all their intensity, have always had a layer for groove, possibly because they’re a band lead by a bass player and a drummer. Whatever the case, they’re still delivering the kind of hard-hitting tunes we can’t say “no” to.

If you happen to love old-school garage punk and the fine art of rollerblading, then you’re in for a treat. Behold, the new music video from the Mean Jeans. It’s like The Ramones, but with knee pads and spandex. The video is short and sweet, just like the song, and it’s pretty fun. The Mean Jeans have never taken themselves too seriously, but that doesn’t mean they rock any less. “Croozin'” is good stuff, any way your cut it, and we cut it like a killer figure eight while rockin’ some blazin’ inline shreds.

Withered sound like rotting metal: rust and death. Their latest effort, Grief Relic will be available on May 27th, but you can hear it in full below. “My Leathery Rind” starts things off and gives you a pretty good idea of what you’re about to experience. Aggressive, punishing, and thunderous, Withered just crushes you over and over again. Listening to Withered is like being punched in the face by a robot who has been possessed by a demon. Hear your metallic doom below.

Mind Spiders have released an ultra creep video for their song “Cold.” The song itself isn’t all that creepy; it’s a post-punk, riff-heavy number that blazes through its three and a half minutes without batting an eye. The video, on the other hand, is a x-ray soaked, low-light nightmare. Simple and effective, this is the sort of stuff that can keep you up at night. The riff will keep you up, too, but only because it’s so damn awesome. So, watch the video below and stay up all night cause you’re stoked and scared. Good times are had by all.

We’ve loved Gaytheist for a long time. After discovering them when they opened for the mighty Red Fang, we instantly scooped up their entire back catalog and have eagerly been awaiting new tunes. “On My Knees” has answered that call and is filling our ear holes with glorious Gaytheist music. It has all the hallmarks of the band: relentless pace, catchy vocals, and a punk rock sensibility. The last Gaytheist full length record was 2013’s Hold Me… But Not So Tight and it would seem the world is ready for their next record. We’ll take tracks like “On My Knees” in the meantime, but we need a new album, fellas. Get on that, please.

Finally, we leave you with Poison Headache. These dudes play strongman metal (I just made that up), the sort of metal that buff people listen to (bands like Harm’s Way). Anyway, if you’re gonna lift some weights this weekend and need a soundtrack, you could do worse than Poison Headache. “Sin Eater” is a good song, filled with elements of grind, metal, and thrash. It’s also got some protein powder mixed in to help make you a strong person. Bust out the weights, tear the sleeves off your shirt, and pump some Poison Headache.

That’s it for this week. Go forth; throw some horns up and keep spinning in the black circle. If there’s a metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, or any other core song you think the world needs to hear, sound off in the comments below. \m/
