Scream at a Wall: ETERNAL KHAN, NO PARENTS, HELLS, and More!

It’s that time of the week again, kiddies. Time to strap in and get heavy with some raging tunes. We explored the darkest corners of the internet, circled the fiercest pits, and summoned the bloodiest of demons in order to bring you fine folks these awesome jams. Looking for a new favorite metal band? Or maybe some punk rock to get your blood pumping? Or do you just need a soundtrack to clean your house to on a quiet Sunday morning? Well, we’re here to help.

King of the Hill from Fox

Eternal Khan’s Lost in the Night of Ages is a real self-produced, self-released gem. Earnest and intense, the album hits you with a wall of dark, doom-filled sound. The mix is right in your face, with everything upfront, no frills, all kills. Eternal Khan doesn’t dress their sound up and that’s part of their charm. Just ugly, raw metal that punches you in the gut. Check it out below.

We’re pretty excited for the new Gutter Instinct album. The newly premiered track “Counter-Culture” is a showcase for our strong feelings. Big, but not overdone, crushing and riff-heavy, this band puts the heavy in metal. They say the camera adds ten pounds, but listening to Gutter Instinct will add forty pounds of pure muscle to the darkest parts of your soul. It’s that kind of heavy. You’re going to want Age of Fanatics in your collection, if you have strong enough shelving.

No Parents have released the anthem of the year. “Hey Grandma” is a stirring number that surely all of us who have had to explain our lifestyle choices to the elderly will relate to. The video is a beauty, too: romantic, inspiring, inspiring. When they sing “Hey Grandma, Merry Christmas, I’m in a punk band,” you can just feel it, somewhere deep down and special. So , thank you, No Parents, thank you for this video and thank you for speaking to the Greatest Generation for us in ways we were never brave enough to do ourselves. Merry Christmas, indeed.

Holy crap, Hells are awesome. Check out Paradise, and check it out now. There are elements of Nerve Agents in here (always a good thing) but fuzzier and more chaotic. Uglier, if that’s possible. The point is, this EP is unreal and you need it. Like, seriously, you need this like a starving man needs meat. We’ve had this thing on repeat of days and have been counting down the seconds until we could share it with you, so don’t disappoint us. Go buy it now. We’ll wait for you for to come back. Promise.

Gozu bring the rock and the riff. They bring them in spades. This is the sort of metal you can listen to with your dad, assuming your dad listens to metal (come on, Dad, you said you wanted to bond with me!). “Nature Boy” is the first track off of Gozu’s new album, which drops this summer, and it’s a ripper. There are pieces of Fu Manchu, Sabbath, and even Helmet in here, all mixed into a pot, boiled, and over-cooked to a burnt crisp. You can check out the video below, which also has a classic, throwback sorta vibe to it.

The Body put out a lot of music. Their output is as punishing and relentless as their music, which is pretty punishing and relentless.  No One Deserves Happiness is their latest, and it’s following right on the heels of their superb collaboration with Full of Hell. If you’ve listened to The Body before, you know what to expect here. Same nightmare-inducing vocals over post-metal, crushing guitars and thunderous drums. This album will not make you a happy, perky person: that’s guaranteed. It’ll suck the sunshine and lollipops right out of your life and leave you to wallow in blood and anger.

Minsk is touring with not one, but two of our favorite bands. They’re doing dates in Europe with Kowloon Walled City, and East Coast U.S. dates with Bloodiest. Those are some killer shows. The Crash and The Draw was Minsk’s most recent release, and if you dig the bands they are touring with, you will surely dig them. Tons of atmosphere, tunnels of sound, and lots and lots of growls. You can get lost in this stuff, easily, and that’s exactly the sort of music we love. If these gnarly monsters are hitting your hometown, make sure you are there.

That’s it for this week. Go forth, throw some horns up, and keep spinning in the black circle. If there’s a metalcore, grindcore, hardcore, or any other -core song you think the world needs to hear, sound off in the comments below. \m/
