Here’s What’s Not to Miss at SDCC 2016 Day One

In two weeks, San Diego Comic-Con 2016 will officially begin with the perfect storm of nerded-up pop culture programming. And you’d better believe that Team Nerdist will be out in full force! But we won’t be alone: Comic-Con has released the full programming information for Thursday, July 21, and it is packed with some amazing panels and presentations. It is simply impossible for any single person to hit them all, but you have 14 days to make a battle plan, starting now!

One of the panels that has our full attention is the Hall H presentation for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, which will feature director Luc Besson, and stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as they debut the first footage from the film at 1pm. But if you’re more interested in seeing the first look at the brand new Justice League Action animated series, make sure to head to Room 25ABC at Noon for a panel with series stars Kevin Conroy, Diedrich Bader, and the creative team behind the new show.

CBS may save any announcements about the new Star Trek series for the mega panel on Saturday, but Eugene Roddenberry will be presenting a Star Trek: 50th Year Celebration panel at 1:30pm in Room 24ABC that will feature the debut of “exclusive material from the Roddenberry Vault.” Another exciting panel is the very first Comic-Con appearance of the cast and crew of Mr. Robot, which will held at 6pm in Room 6BCF.

In the world of comics, you can celebrate the 75th anniversary of Captain America in Room 9 at 5pm, with comic historian Mark Evanier, as he shares stories about the creation of America’s patriotic superhero with Jim Simon, the son of Cap co-creator Joe Simon and artist Allen Bellman. Earlier in the day, Dark Horse Comics will welcome you back to the Whedonverse, as Christos Gage and special guests tease the end of Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 10 and hint at what’s coming next from Joss Whedon‘s comics. That panel is taking place at 12:00pm in Room 23ABC.

This year’s annual Nerdist Panel will take place on Thursday at 1pm in the Indigo Ballroom with Nerdist editor-in-chief Rachel Heine, senior editor Dan Casey, managing editor Alicia Lutes, president Adam Rymer, Nerdist News host Jessica Chobot, and special surprise guests! (‘Cause you know we love surprises.) And this is your chance to see almost the entire team in one place before we separate to cover the rest of the con and our very own event, Conival!

And if that’s not enough Nerdist for you, join Alicia Lutes for the Nerdist TV panel at 5:30pm in Room 6A, as she’ll be moderating a panel with the creators of some of our favorite genre television shows. No spoilers yet, sweeties, but trust us: you’re not going to want to miss it. Our sister site, Geek & Sundry, is also running a panel on Thursday at 12pm in the Indigo Ballroom, with Felicia Day and her collaborators as they offer a preview of their new and upcoming projects. Special guests include Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), Laura Bailey (Critical Role, Titansgrave), Marisha Ray (Critical Role, Signal Boost), Ryon Day (Co-Optitude), Ivan Van Norman (TableTop, Game the Game) and more!

Outside of our extended family of events, there’s a whole lot to enjoy. If you can’t find something to love at Comic-Con, then you’re doing it wrong! You can check out the entire schedule here.
