Recently the entire main cast for Gareth Edward’s Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One was revealed, and among the very impressive group of actors that includes Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Forest Whitaker, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Riz Ahmed and Alan Tudyk. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the cast members listed was television’s Hannibal himself, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen.
Of course, like with most of the parts in this movie, we have basically no idea who anyone is playing, despite reports that Felicity Jones is playing the daughter of Boba Fett (even if the timeline for that being the case makes zero sense. Do the math guys, Boba would be only 30 or so in A New Hope era) or that Diego Luna is playing X-Wing pilot and Luke Skywalker’s childhood buddy Biggs Darklighter, just because they have the same mustache. But might there be a clue hidden in the latest official Star Wars Insider magazine which tells us exactly who Mads is playing?
Star Wars Insider published ‘Blade Squadron Part 1’ in issue #149, focusing on a squad of Rebel pilots that fought in the Battle of Endor, and helped to destroy the second Death Star and bring about the end of the Empire’s rule. Like all new Star Wars-related comics and novels going forward, however, this is part of the Lucasfilm approved “new canon”, meaning the story and characters are all official. Although ‘Blade Squadron’ is a prose story, there are illustrations that accompany it. In the story, we’re introduced to Imperial Admiral Jharred Montferrat, whose illustration looks very much like actor Mads Mikkelsen.
Considering the timeline for Rogue One takes place around the time of A New Hope, about four years prior to the battle of Endor and the destruction of the second Death Star, then there’s a possibility that this Admiral Montferrat guy is around at the time the movie occurs. We know that the Empire’s “sinister agents”, as the opening text in the original film refers to the Imperials, will pay a key part in Rogue One. Could Lucasfilm be telling us who the movie’s bad guy is right in the pages of their own magazine?
Check out the image below, and tell us in the comments below if you think this Admiral Montferrat is indeed the dead ringer for Mads Mikkelsen we think he is:
