Rumor: Warwick Davis Might Play Wicket in THE FORCE AWAKENS

Yub to the em-effing-nub, you guys. We’ve known for a little while that actor Warwick Davis would play some unknown character in the upcoming Star Wars film The Force Awakens, which, I certainly don’t need to remind you, comes out at Christmastime. And when that beautiful bit of intergalactic ephemera hits the screens, it may include an ewok reprise.

There are reports that Davis will return to play none other than Wicket W. Warrick, the ewok warrior who befriended Princess Leia and everybody in Return of the Jedi and went on to be the star of two spin-off TV movies, The Ewok Adventure and its much darker follow-up Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. The report noted that Davis was listed as playing Wicket on some official press materials during the Japanese tour.

Now, people in general seem to be about as fond of the ewoks in Jedi as they are of gungans in the prequels, so would the return of the most famous of these furry forest-dwellers be met with cheers or jeers? Regardless of what the ewoks eventually became, they’re still pretty go-to merchandising figures. That said, with the appearance of  Chewie, Artoo, Threepio, the Falcon, Luke, Leia, and Han already confirmed, could this random addition muddy the waters? Isn’t unfettered referencing partially what got them in trouble in the first place?

No one says that if Wicket appears he’ll be in it very long. But we’ve already seen that image of Vader’s charred and melted helmet, so the odds of J.J. Abrams’ movie at least returning to the forest moon of Endor for a moment seems pretty high. Whatever the case may be, Warwick Davis is a good actor in any role, so I’d be up for him to appear in any capacity.

What do you think? Would you be all Yip-Chaw about a return of Wicket or are you more on the side of Nu-pa Nu-pa? Let us know in the comments below!
