Last summer, word broke that comic scribe Geoff Johns would be teaming up with current big screen Batman, Ben Affleck to write a new Batman solo film with Affleck potentially directing as well. While details about the project have been scarce, a new rumor potentially has lots of spoilers for the next Batman film. Youâve been warned!
According to a report on JoBlo, Johns and Affleck will be adapting two key Batman storylines in the next movie: âDeath in the Familyâ and âUnder the Hood.â As comic fans know, the second Robin, Jason Todd, factors heavily in both stories, as he was brutally murdered by the Joker in the former and resurrected as the vengeful Red Hood in the latter!
The report states that Warner Bros. is positioning Toddâs Red Hood as the counterpart of Marvelâs Winter Soldier with big plans in mind for the character. Jared Letoâs Joker would also heavily play into the next Batman, as the Red Hood targets him as well in his ongoing campaign of vengeance.
Supposedly the upcoming Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice already has an overt reference to Jason Todd and the Red Hood. The trailer for the film features Bruce Wayne staring at Robinâs costume. Itâs also been suggested that the Red Hood sent Wayne the note taunting him about the death of his employees during the battle of Metropolis in Man of Steel.
However, Batman may not be alone in his fight against the Joker and the Red Hood. Dick Graysonâs Nightwing is also reportedly a part of the movieâs storyline. Itâs worth noting that “Under the Hood” was already adapted as an animated movie called Batman: Under the Red Hood in 2010. Itâs also likely that Affleck and Johns would put their own spin on the story instead of a straight adaptation of either storyline.
There is currently no date set for the next Batman solo film, but Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice is coming out in theaters on March 26, 2016.
