Soon seeing Wolverine and Reed Richards side-by-side won’t be relegated to the pages of Marvel Comics or my searingly erotic fan fiction; it will be coming to the big screen if the latest rumors are to be believed. According to Latino-Review, a Fantastic Four/X-Men crossover is in the works for 2018. This bit of analysis should come with an Apocalypse-sized grain of salt based on talk of an as-yet “unknown” X-Men movie coming in 2018.
When I spoke with X-Men: Days of Future Past producer Simon Kinberg last year, he explained that the studio’s primary focus would be on launching Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and the various X-Men sequels before looking at crossover possibilities. That being said, a crossover definitely isn’t out of the question — it just likely isn’t a priority. In the meantime though, there’s still plenty of superheroic action to look forward to with Fantastic Four coming out on August 7, 2015, Deadpool dropping on February 12, 2016, X-Men: Apocalypse coming out on May 27, 2016, and Wolverine 3 coming out on March 3, 2017.
For my money, though, if this does happen, they’d better go with Chris Claremont, Jon Bogdanove, and Terry Austin’s Fantastic Four vs. the X-Men.
