Rumor: Drew Goddard Has Left Netflix’s DAREDEVIL

Yesterday, the internet was left in shock after it was announced Edgar Wright had parted ways with Marvel on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Ant-Man that’s currently slated for release next year. Rumors are currently swirling on why the split occurred, but regardless of its reasoning, it happened and it can’t be undone. Unfortunately, now it’s no longer the only major departure Marvel has to deal with this holiday weekend according to a new report from Latino-Review.

When Marvel announced its slate of Netflix shows, it was revealed the first one that would be going into production was Daredevil, and nerdy favorite Drew Goddard would be writing and directing the pilot in addition to showrunning the 13-episode run. But as of this morning, it now appears that’s no longer the case as Goddard has left the project for undisclosed reasons.

The news was confirmed this morning by The Hollywood Reporter, who are reporting that Goddard will be passing the Daredevil torch to Spartacus showrunner Steven S. DeKnight. Although DeKnight’s deal is close to being finalized, it’s also being reported that Goddard, who will next tackle writing and directing Sony’s Sinister Six, will remain onboard the drama in a consultant capacity.

It’s been a bad last 24 hours to be a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe creative team, in both mediums. Getting a new iteration of Daredevil off the ground has been a nightmare for a few years now. Fox plowed through heavy hitting directors including David Slade and Joe Carnahan before losing the right to Marvel who have now been kicked in the teeth creatively. For the show to meet its planned 2015 release, much like Ant-Man, development needs to be underway now, and that’s hard to do when there’s no one to guide the ship to port.

There is currently no word if Goddard’s departure has anything to do with his work on the expanded Spider-Man universe at Sony.

What do you guys think of Daredevil losing Goddard? Who do you want to see replace him? Let us know in the comments below.
