ROCKET LEAGUE’S Honest Game Trailer is Brutally Honest and Hilarious

The crew at Smosh Games is back with another Honest Game Trailer. After recently tackling titles like Disney Infinity, Batman: Arkham Knight, and Metal Gear Solid, the team decided to lay down the cold hard truth about the summer hit, Rocket League. So, if you’ve yet to download the title and want to know what the rest of the internet has been raving about, feast your eyes on the video above.

As the announcer points out, one of the main reasons the game became so popular is because it was free on PlayStation Plus on launch. That’s not a knock on the title, because if you’ve played it, you know how fun it is. What you probably didn’t know, however, is that the game is actually the second entry in an existing series. The game’s 2008 predecessor was titled Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars (or SARPBC) for short. Yes, really. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

In it’s brutal honesty, the video accurately nails the few frustrations of Rocket League’s gameplay–especially the bit about chasing the ball around like a children’s soccer league, and how it feels more like the sport than popular soccer sims like Fifa and PES. It also lays down what you actually do in the game, like customizing your vehicle even though it doesn’t change the way it operates.

The cherry on top, as always, was the bit at the end where they list the game’s stars. We’ve all gone head to head with (or been) the folks who constantly run at the ball, try to demolish you every chance they get, keep trying for aerials, disconnect as soon as they’re losing, and last but not least, the guy/gal who won’t stay in the goal. Seriously, if you’re going to be the goalie, stop messing around and do your job!
