Is Sabrina the Teenage Witch Joining RIVERDALE?

Could the world of the CW’s Riverdale be getting a bit magical in season 2? The first season of the Archie Comics inspired series gave us pretty much everyone we could want from the Archie-verse! But there’s one key player who has been missing so far: Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Now, it could be that the rights for Sabrina are tied up somewhere else. After all, Sabrina did have her own TGIF series with Melissa Joan Hart in the ’90s. But today’s Nerdist News is examining a cryptic hint that may indicate Sabrina is moving to Riverdale!

Join host, and the enigmatic fourth member of Josie and the Pussycats, Jessica Chobot, as she tells us whether we can expect to see Sabrina in Riverdale. The first thing you have to know is that fans of the series have already set their sights upon Dove Cameron to play Sabrina on the CW. Cameron also has some magical experience playing Maleficent‘s daughter, Mal, the Disney TV movie, The Descendants. And Cameron seems to be game for Sabrina as well. She recently posted this image on her Instagram account, and it’s got us excited!

That is either some A+ trolling from Cameron or she may really be up for the role of Sabrina on Riverdale. But that’s not necessarily the end of the story. Regardless of who portrays Sabrina, her inclusion in the show would raise a pretty big question about whether magic is real in the Riverdale universe. Until now it’s been…well, grounded is the wrong word to use. But the show exists in a world that’s not too different from our own. There haven’t been any clues that the supernatural is lurking out there.

Having said that, Twin Peaks didn’t immediately go on its otherworldly bender when it first hit television in the ’90s. David Lynch and Mark Frost slowly introduced the weirdness of the Black Lodge and Demon Bob until they became a big part of the show. Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is a huge Twin Peaks fan, and we can totally see him taking the same steps with Sabrina and the wider supernatural stories that she represents. Because if they bring in the Teenage Witch and she isn’t magically powered…then she just isn’t Sabrina, is she?

Who do you think should play Sabrina on Riverdale? And should Sabrina remain a witch on the show? Cast your spells in the comment section below!
