Molly Ringwald Joins RIVERDALE, THE 100 Season 4 Trailer, More TV News

Casting news abounds in today’s TV-Cap! I have word about who’s joining Riverdale, 12 Monkeys, and Star Trek: Discovery. The news round-up also includes an intense trailer for season four of The 100, a Justice League Action premiere clip, and more.

Back to High School. Riverdale has cast Archie’s mom, Mary Andrews. She’ll be played by none other than Molly Ringwald. Yes, sometimes life is perfect. Mary left Riverdale two years before the beginning of the series but returns when her family needs her. She’ll appear in two episodes over the season, the first of which will be the tenth episode of season one. Riverdale premieres January 26. [TVLine]

TV’s Best. The year is ending, and it’s time to reflect on the television we’ve consumed. Dan and the Nerdist editorial team carefully considered what series they thought were the best 2016 had to offer and compiled them in the latest The Dan Cave. Enjoy. [Nerdist]

Cast Everything! Wednesday was apparently the day for cast announcements. I missed the memo. No big deal though, because we’re catching up right now. Aside from Molly Ringwald in Riverdale, here’s what I have:

  • First up, CBR reports The Flash has cast Gypsy. She’ll be visiting Earth 1 later in the season, and she’ll be played by Jessica Camacho.
  • Over at Syfy’s 12 Monkeys, Nerdist exclusively announced Hannah Waddingham (Game of Thrones) is coming to the series as Magdalena. Faran Tahir is hopping on board, too; he’s playing Mallick. Get more details on their roles here at Nerdist.
  • Star Trek: Discovery has found a kick-ass addition: Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) will play the lead of the series. We don’t have any details about her character just yet. [Nerdist]

More Demons to Chase. IFC’s original horror comedy series Stan Against Evil will be back for more in 2017. IFC’s granted the series a second season. [IGN]

Nuclear Problems. The 100 is set in a world all about survival, and that can cause some serious drama–especially when the people living on that world know it’s ready to fall apart. That’s where we’re standing heading into season four of The CW drama. It returns on February 1, but you can get a look at the hardship ahead in the new, very serious trailer. [Nerdist]

Don’t Count It Out. A spinoff of How I Met Your Mother was in the works a couple of years ago, but the idea, called How I Met Your Dad, didn’t pan out. However, the notion of a spinoff isn’t off the table. Deadline reports a new project called How I Met Your Father is being developed with This Is Us execs Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. This ensemble show would be told from a female point of view. [Deadline]

Team Meeting. Justice League Action arrives on Cartoon Network tomorrow, December 16. Ahh! They’re debuting with “Shazam Slam,” a four part special event. Watch the above clip from the episode which will feature Black Adam unleashing a horde of Djinn on the world. Head to the gallery below to see stills from the Justice League Action premiere. Recap It! I can’t leave without telling you about some recent recaps: we have one for the newest Vikings and a fresh Game of Thrones Re-Throned.
