RIFFTRAX Enters the DREAMSCAPE

Dreamscape is getting the Rifftrax treatment!

As directed and co-written by Joseph Ruben, Dreamscape is a (classic?) sci-fi/horror film that was released in 1984. It featured a young Dennis Quaid as Alex Gardner, a man who could enter the dreams of other people. Co-starring in the film is the iconic Max von Sydow as Alex’s mentor Dr. Paul Novotny, with future Mrs. Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw as fellow dream warrior and Alex’s love interest, Jane DeVries.

What ‘80s psychic superpower film would be complete without a shady government official? Frequent movie villain Christopher Plummer gets to fill that role in Dreamscape as Bob Blair, the man who plots to kill the President of the United States…in his dreams!

31 years after its first release, Dreamscape is getting some long overdue mockery from the amazing folks at Rifftrax. Nerdist’s very own Cole Stratton (the co-host of the Pop My Culture podcast on Nerdist Podcast Network) and Janet Varney (of The JV Club) are the lucky guest commentators who get to give Dreamscape what’s coming to it.

As the Rifftrax description promises, you’ll “see Kate Capshaw’s mega-80s hair! Listen to a barely-awake Christopher Plummer as a steely government agent! Watch David Patrick Kelly creepily eat a sandwich!”

This is the first time that Stratton and Varney have done a Rifftrax in three years. And did I mention that Varney was the voice of Korra in The Legend of Korra? Then I’m mentioning it now!

Rifftrax is offering Dreamscape at its site for $7.99, which gives you the option to stream it, download it, or burn it to a DVD for later use.

Movie fans, share your Dreamscape memories and jokes in the comment section below!
