Oooooh weeee, Rick and Morty fans are sure gonna be glad about this. Because even though we still have a long, long wait until the show returns for a fourth season, the best/worst grandfather and grandson duo in the infinite universes is back as the stars of a new video for Run the Jewels in a stylish Men in Black/Pulp Fiction homage.
Adult Swim announced Run the Jewels will be playing the network’s festival in downtown L.A. on October 6th and 7th with a new music video for the hip hop duo’s song “Oh Mama.” It features a silent-but-deadly Rick and Morty clad all in black, in what is basically a Rick and Morty vignette, as the two take on a Gromflamite cartel for a mysterious briefcase on an adventure that sees them visiting well known locales from the show.
Despite knowing everything we know about Rick, somehow we still didn’t see the Morty twist at the end coming. And we’re already coming up with more theories about what was inside that briefcase than we ever have for Pulp Fiction. THIS VIDEO IS NOW CANON.
This isn’t the first time the show’s titular pair and Adult Swim have teamed up with Run the Jewels. Last year they appeared in a trippy, genre-hopping video set to an instrumental version of the band’s song “Thursday in the Danger Room.” And this newest video comes only a few months after Rick and Morty showed up at Deadmau5’s New Year’s Eve Show.
Which means it appears the only way we’re going to keep getting more of our favorite TV show is through the music world. Strange, but you know what they say: “That’s the waaaay the news goes.”
What do you think was in the briefcase? Tell us your best theory in the comments below.
