Few Rick and Morty characters inspire as much excitement as Evil Morty, the malevolent alternate universe counterpart of the show’s anxiety-ridden teen star. Evil Morty made only a single appearance in the first season before finally making his spectacular return during the third season, but both times he has shown up, he has been accompanied by Blonde Redhead’s “For the Damaged Coda,” which has been adopted by fans as the Evil Morty theme. Now, Evil Morty’s signature music is going classical.
Via Laughing Squid, Nathan Mills released his classical style cover of Evil Morty’s theme, performed on his guitar. The piece does lose a little impact without the vocalization of the original song, but Mills’ rendition also has a foreboding sense of menace, which seems appropriate for its subject.
Evil Morty has proved to be such an effective villain on the show that neither Rick nor Morty appear to be aware of him. When last seen, Evil Morty pulled of a stunning coup and found himself in total control of the Citadel of Ricks. We fully expect Evil Morty to play a larger role in the upcoming fourth season of Rick and Morty. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to be a long time between seasons.
We’ve previously covered Mills’ excellent take on the Stranger Things theme. You can check out his YouTube channel, Beyond the Guitar, for his frequently updated covers.
