RETURN OF THE JEDI’s Ewok ‘Yub Nub’ Song–Barbershop Quartet Style

Maybe you find the ewoks silly. Maybe you find them childish. Maybe you think they are the worst part of Return of the Jedi. You might think all of those, but at least we can all agree there is definitely one awesome thing that’s true of the ewoks: those furry little guys sure know how to celebrate!

Recently we told you about a great acoustic version of the ewok victory song “Yub Nub,” the one they sang at the end of the original version of Return of the Jedi after helping to defeat the Empire. Well, today we have yet another version, one that involves striped jackets and twirly mustaches. That’s right, this is “Yub Nub” as performed by a barbershop quartet.

This four-man version comes to us from Crackerjack Junction, and they even included an appropriate introduction to the song, not to mention the actual translation for the lyrics, which are mostly about freedom, power, celebrating, and celebrating freedom and power, with a little bit of glory and love mixed in for good measure.

Never forget that George Lucas decided there was something wrong with this ending song though, and he changed it for the Star Wars Special Editions, to an inferior song without any fun lyrics. Oh, and he also changed old Ghost Anakin to young Ghost Anakin and ruined civilization in the process. Everyone knows ghosts are old! I could live to 200-years-old and I’ll still be complaining about young Ghost Anakin on my death bed. And probably about how we never met aliens. Or figured out time travel. The point is I’m going to be bitter at the end and losing “Yub Nub” will be part of the reason.

While this is certainly a fun version, and certainly sounds like a legitimate barbershop quartet song, I don’t think it’s a knock to say it doesn’t quite top my all-time favorite performance though. (Sorry, audio only.)
