Report: Chris Pine Signs on to Star Opposite Gal Gadot in WONDER WOMAN

According to TheWrap, Chris Pine has officially signed on to star as Steve Trevor in DC and Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman film, coming in 2017. The news comes on the heels of rumors that Pine had been meeting with producers with intent to join the newly developing DC Cinematic Universe in either the role of Trevor, or perhaps in the possible Green Lantern Corps. movie.

The character of Steve Trevor, longtime love interest to Diana Prince, has also been rumored to appear before Wonder Woman, perhaps in next year’s Suicide Squad. In the comics, Trevorappeared recently alongside Amanda Waller in The New 52’s Justice League of America (not Justice League), so many thought he could make an appearance in the villain-heavy flick as an extra pair of hands to help wrangle that team of patsies.

Wonder Woman is on target for a June 23, 2017 release and will be directed by Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot in the title role. Gadot will debut her character in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The exact mythos and character history for Diana has not been revealed by producer Zack Snyder or anyone else involved in the making of the movie. In the New 52 reboot of the character, Diana was given a much stronger tie to her roots in Greek mythology, but her history with Steve Trevor was minimized. It is rumored that the movie will see Diana introduced to the United States during the height of World War II, just like her very first origin story, and highlight the superhuman abilities (and very slow aging process) of the Amazonian warriors as her story is then bridged to present day.

Chris Pine is currently filming Star Trek Beyond, and will appear aboard the USS Enterprise once again before stepping into the role of Steve Trevor.

How pumped are you for Pine to join the DCCU!? Sound off below!
