Renae De Liz Will Retell Diana’s Origin in THE LEGEND OF WONDER WOMAN

Earlier this fall, DC Comics revealed that the acclaimed Wonder Woman digital first comic anthology, Sensation Comics, will end in December. But Wonder Woman fans won’t be left without their favorite heroine for long, as DC has announced that Renae De Liz is writing and illustrating a new digital first miniseries called The Legend of Wonder Woman. De Liz’s husband, Ray Dillon will ink and color the book as well.

The Legend of Wonder Woman will reportedly explore Diana’s origin story over the course of nine issues. According to DC, the majority of the story will take place during Diana’s childhood on Themyscira (the island home of the Amazon) years before she left to become a champion of peace in Man’s World as Wonder Woman. However, the series will also depict Diana’s earliest days as Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman was created by William Moulton Marston in 1941 and she is considered to be one of DC’s most iconic heroes alongside Batman and Superman. However, it’s been rare for a female creator to both write and draw a Wonder Woman story, and De Liz will also be one of the few creators who has been tasked with rewriting Diana’s origin for a modern audience.

Previously, De Liz was the artist of IDW’s The Last Unicorn adaptation, Anne Rice’s Servant of the Bones, and Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Music Box. De Liz was also the creator and manager of Womanthology, a popular female-creator led comic book anthology. The Legend of Wonder Woman will debut online in January 2016. DC hasn’t announced yet when The Legend of Wonder Woman will jump to print as well.
