Remote Play Finally Arrives With New Playstation 4 Firmware

Today Sony announced the launch of their beta program for the Playstation 4‘s newest system software update, officially and affectionately codenamed Musashi. Sony also shared key features that will be included with the new version 3.5 firmware, and with that came the long awaited return of one of our favorite features of Playstations past (drum roll please)… Remote Play for Windows PC and Mac is back, baby!

That’s right, the ability to stream from your PS4 to your desktop or laptop computer will finally be added natively to the Playstation System. This replaces the Playstation Vita and Playstation TV hardware you had to get to add this functionality since both pieces of hardware are currently getting phased out by Sony. Unfortunately, the Remote Play feature won’t be available for tomorrow’s beta launch. However, it WILL be included in the full release later this year, so even the lucky few who were selected to participate in the beta program will have to wait for the official release to remotely stream games like Call of Duty to your laptop while you’re stuck at the DMV or avoiding people at a party.

Other features announced include a “friend online” notification, incognito mode, user scheduled events, play together mode, and live streaming direct to Daily Motion. The official release date has yet to be revealed, and more features will be announced down the line.

Let us know what you think in the comments below: How stoked are you to have Remote Play again? Did you sign up for the beta program? Where will you start streaming your games? Let’s discuss!
