Remembering Alan Rickman’s Iconic Roles

The world is mourning the loss of yet another iconic entertainer this week: the extremely talented, velvety-voiced, splendidly-scowled actor Alan Rickman has passed away at the age of 69.

We’re paying tribute to the brilliant thespian on today’s Nerdist News by recognizing his most iconic roles–many from our favorite sci-fi and fantasy films, like Sir Alexander Dane in Galaxy Quest, the voice of Marvin the Paranoid Android in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and of course, the heartbreaking role of Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. The lifelong actor found his breakout role in Die Hard at the age of 42, an inspiring fact that should encourage anyone pursuing their creative goals and dreams. It’s strange to think that without his star-making turn as terrorist baddie Hans Gruber, we may never have been able to swoon over his his sultry Sheriff of Nottingham; appreciated his passionate work in Truly Madly Deeply, Sense & Sensibility, or Love, Actually; or found such a perfect, beloved Snape.

Join Jessica Chobot as we take a look back at the roles that made us fall in love with Rickman, whether we loved to hate him or loved to love him, on today’s Nerdist News.

Thanks for watching todays show. In case you missed it, Kyle Hill explains how the type of mind control seen in Jessica Jones actually exists in nature, on this week’s Because Science.

Let us know in the comments what your favorite Alan Rickman performances are, and join us in remembering his wonderful talents.
