Rainbow Mika Steps Back into the Ring for STREET FIGHTER V

Well, look who we have here. Capcom’s community manager Peter Rosas took to the PlayStation blog this morning to reveal the newest addition to Street Fighter V‘s roster, Rainbow Mika (aka R. Mika). She’ll be entering the ring once more (after a 17 year hiatus) with new moves and her tag-team partner Nadeshiko. Alongside the announcement, Capcom released a character reveal trailer (above), as well as new details about how Nadeshiko will assist in the fight.

Her reappearance is a surprise since it’s been quite a while since we last saw her. Her first (and only) appearance in the Street Fighter franchise was way back in 1998’s Street Fighter Alpha 3. In the below image, you can see Alpha 3‘s version of R. Mika kicking fellow blonde badass Cammy’s butt.

Street Fighter V R. Mika Vs Cammy

As many of you already know, R. Mika is a female wrestler who dreams of becoming a star in the ring, just like her idol–and fellow Street Fighter alum–Zangief. According to the blog post, “R. Mika’s wrestling prowess will be on full display in Street Fighter V, as she dazzles opponents with a large variety of high-flying moves.”

One of the new moves Capcom revealed is a V-Skill called “Mic Performance.” Once triggered, R. Mika will pull out her microphone and perform a charismatic monologue to the crowd. Holding down the appropriate buttons for a longer period of time will increase the power of her normal and special throws. She’ll be able to absorb one hit from the opposing fighter during her monologue, can cancel the speech simply by releasing the buttons. Once ended, she’ll throw the mic at her enemy.

Street Fighter V Nadeshiko Assist

When Nadeshiko is called into the ring with the V-Trigger activation, the direction held determines which high-flying attack R. Mika’s tag-team partner will use. There will be three in total: Neutral (which comes from above), hold back (a drop-kick from the front) and last but not least, hold forward (dropkick from behind). The idea behind this is to keep opponents guessing and allow  players “to set up sneaky attacks and punishing command grab mix-ups.”

According to Capcom, R. Mika is geared towards those who enjoy “close-combat guessing games.” From the looks of the trailer at the top of the page, she looks like she’s going to be a tough competitor, and more importantly, a lot of fun to play.

What do you think of R. Mika? Are you planning on using her? Let us know in the comments below.
