PSA: You Can Totally Make ZOOTOPIA Cosplay Work

Disney’s Zootopia stole our hearts this year with its great message, hilarious script, and lovable characters, and it’s managed to inspire a lot of artists to create work based on the film. The only problem the film presented was in the realm of cosplay. After all, Zootopia characters, though all dressed in human-style clothing, are animals, meaning a cosplayer and Zootopia fan would have a pretty tough time bringing a character from the film to life. Really, it seemed that there were two options: the full, furry animal suit route or the “minimalist” route of just animal ears and regular clothes.

Turns out there’s actually a pretty happy medium between the two, and DeviantArt user gnitae found it with this spectacular Zootopia cosplay. Take a peek:

Zootopia

Judy and Nick

Awesome, right? Instead of using full-body animal suits, these cosplayers used their hair as a key part to the costume along with animal ears, tails, and some strategic makeup usage. Even though their cosplay is a bit subtle, I love that it’s still so spot-on. You can identify Judy, Nick, and Bellwether immediately, and see how well they’ve captured the essence of their characters. Somehow these cosplayers have managed to bridge that gap between a costume that would usually be reserved for the furry crowd, and someone who didn’t want to put really any effort into their costume. I guess you really can be anything you want to be in Zootopia, even if it’s a human dressing like an animal dressing like a human.

Have you seen any cool Zootopia cosplay? Who would you cosplay as from the film? Let me know what you think in the comments!
