Propeller-Powered Hoverboard Sets Guinness World Record Over Water

It’s been a good couple of months for hoverboards. Last November we rode the Hendo hoverboard, which floats above conductive surfaces using a series of spinning magnets. And on Friday, a Canadian inventor set the Guinness World Record for furthest hoverboard flight.

In the video above, Catalin Alexandru Duru’s very own propeller-based hoverboard flies 275.9 meters (905 feet, 2 inches) to set the official record for “Farthest flight by a hoverboard” while five meters above Lake Ouareau in Quebec, Canada.

Duru’s creation was developed over the course of a year, and with the propellers pushing — unlike what is currently possible with magnets — Duru is able to reach “scary heights” and fly anywhere over anything, like a real McFly.
