Exclusive: Preview Robert Rodriguez’s Frank Frazetta Museum at SXSW 2015!

If you’re planning to attend this month’s SXSW in Austin, Texas and you have even a passing interest in classic American illustration art, then you owe it to yourself to visit Robert Rodriguez’s Frank Frazetta Museum. This marks the second year that the director has showcased his private collection of Frazetta painted masterpieces at the arts and culture festival, and this year Rodriguez is offering a selection of hand-numbered giclée prints of some of the pieces, all of which he’s photographed and printed, available for purchase. Best of all, the proceeds from the sales of these prints–as well as that of related merchandise–will be put towards the preservation of Frank Frazetta’s art legacy.

Included amongst these works are paintings of Conan the Barbarian and Death Dealer, just two of the characters Frazetta brought to life throughout his legendary career. Also on display will be artwork from Rodriguez’s own upcoming Fire and Ice, based on Frazetta’s work, as well as an original Sin City piece by Frank Miller, Drew Struzan’s poster art for First Blood and The Thing, original paintings by pop art master Sebastian Kruger, and original movie props and painted portraits of characters from Rodriguez’s films. Also on display will be a rare self portrait Frazetta painted. And we have an exclusive look at that painting here:

Check out the invitation to the Museum below, as well as a gallery of images for the giclée prints — including one featuring poster art for Rodriguez’s vampire favorite From Dusk Till Dawn — that will be available for purchase there.

I don’t think I could pick just one. It would probably have to be a list of about 5 and it would never be the same.  Wish I could go see them.
