Prepare for CIVILIZATION VI With a Launch Trailer and Epic A.I. Showdown

Since the dawn of time, man has asked one question: did Gandhi just launch nukes at my capital?

Sorry, I didn’t mean “dawn of time” like in real life; I meant it in terms of Civilization VI, the highly anticipated 4X turn-based strategy game from 2K and Firaxis Games. The sixth entry in Sid Meier’s venerable empire-building series finally comes to PC on Friday, October 21, 2016, just in time for the 25th anniversary of the mega-popular franchise. To celebrate the impending launch of the game, 2K released a brand new launch trailer featuring a bearded, Sean Bean-voiced, seemingly immortal leader who is present for a civilization’s greatest moments, which you can view above. It looks suitably epic, got me incredibly excited to play the game for an irresponsible amount of time, and also made me sad that Nick Cave’s unproduced Gladiator sequel never got made.

To give you a sense of the delightfully time-consuming insanity coming your way, the developers at Firaxis Games are livestreaming an A.I. battle royale, which pits eight of history’s greatest rulers against one another in a royal rumble for the ages. The build featured below was custom-made by the Firaxis developers to provide a more spectator-friendly multiplayer experience as the computer-controlled players do righteous battle:
