Premiere: William Alexander’s COME FIND ME is Filled with Hushed Pop Gems

I don’t know too much about William Alexander aside from the fact that he resides in Southern California, has an incredible instinct for creating catchy ear-worms, and that he once watched the Katy Perry movie, Part Of Me. In fact, he was so inspired by the film that he wanted to record an original song that captured his undying love for the pop singer, but all he could think to do was record a pristine cover of the Troggs’ “With A Girl Like You”.

From there, Alexander’s impressive Come Find Me EP was born, a brief collection of diverse pop gems that highlight the songwriter’s tastes and strengths as both a performer and lyricist. After the Troggs cover, Alexander takes the listener on a hushed psychedelic trip for the rest of the record. “Come Find Me” with its skittering drum kit, flittering synth bursts, and gentle coos about “losing yourself” sounds like it was recorded during the Summer of Love. “Souvenir” is a bright pop song that spotlight Alexander’s vocals over a simple, somewhat eerie guitar hook. The EP’s final track, “Maze”, sounds like an ebullient Dan Deacon-Cut Copy collaboration. There is no unifying factor among these tracks, but that isn’t the point. You can tell from this small sampler that William Alexander’s first proper release will be something you should absolutely pay attention to. He clearly has an interesting take on multifaceted genres and the liminal spaces between them, so I can only imagine how good a proper LP from this talented songwriter will sound.

Alexander’s debut album, Strangest Things, will be out this November via Yellow K Records.
