Premiere: Headbang and Thrash along to ‘FYK’ by Loud Boyz

Not awake yet? This should do the trick.

Loud Boyz are a Washington D.C. hardcore band (the scene there right now is insane) that channel the punk, DIY vibes of SST records, as well as the rich musical history of their own city. My favorite thing about the band is their utilitarianism, a virtue in and of itself. Right away, their name gets to work to let you know their mission statement as a collective. No irony here; just screaming, shredding, bleeding and moshing in a dingy club. \m/

From the initial guitar riff, you know that a guttural scream isn’t far away on “FYK”, from the group’s forthcoming record Tough Love, Hard Feelings. And when you hear an already-hoarse howl, you know that this band isn’t just trading on the image or appearance of punk–you’re in for a blistering two minutes of abrasion. The entire album is under twenty minutes, but feels like a f–king gauntlet in the best way possible. When it’s over, you are out of breath, but can’t fathom sitting down or resting.

Very excited to see Loud Boyz’ trajectory, and very scared to ever see them live for fear that my body will collapse from exertion.

Tough Love, Hard Feelings drops July 10 via Cricket Cemetery Records.
