Premiere: The White Buffalo’s ‘Modern Times’ is Monday Morning Magic

Let’s face it — Mondays suck. Garfield knows it. I know it. The American people know it. But there are ways to ease the ceaseless boredom and existential dreariness of staring down the barrel of another workweek. For those times when you feel out of sync with the rest of the world, there is something better to do than stare at the ticking hands of the clock, waiting for 5PM. You take a page out of Jake Smith’s book by getting up out of your chair and dancing like it’s the end of the world. And that is exactly he does in the new music video for The White Buffalo’s “Modern Times”, premiering today exclusively on Nerdist.

For those of you not in the know, Jake Smith is the man behind The White Buffalo, a dynamic folk rock act based out of Los Angeles that has rocked out alongside acts like Ziggy Marley, Jack Johnson, and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. His deep, growling voice thunders through the speakers on “Modern Times,” carried to a tremendously satisfying crescendo by driving guitar riffs and Smith’s delightfully silly on-screen antics. Whether or not you are familiar with The White Buffalo’s discography, there is a strong chance that you’ve heard Smith’s sweet strains in the comfort of your own home. Smith netted an Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics” for his song “Come Join The Murder” on the Sons of Anarchy series finale. After bumping “Modern Times” though, there will be no doubts left in your mind as to who Smith is and whether or not you should be listening to his supremely catchy, folk-tinged earworms.

The White Buffalo’s new album,  Love and the Death of Damnation, is available on August 21. You can pre-order it now on PledgeMusic.
