“Happy Monday” is a paradox of sorts, neglecting the fact that the first day of the week is always a bummer. However, there are certain exceptions to this, like when a very danceable jam makes its way into my inbox and lifts my spirits instantly. That was the case with Strange Talk’s disco leaning “Jive”, and we are stoked to exclusively premiere the track below.
After a bit of lineup shifting and aesthetic shuffling, the Australian duo are about to put out their first new release since 2014’s Cast Away. And if “Jive” is any indication of what we can expect, then we are about to have a gem release full of thumping nu-disco. Discussing their new sound, the band talked about returning to the music they listened to growing up for new inspiration.
‘Jive’ is throw back to our love of the French disco/sample sound of Daft Punk, Cassius and many others. Its what we grew up and what we still love to listen to today and play in our DJ sets. We wanted ‘Jive’ to sound like we had sampled an old disco track and were able to achieve this by creating a very short original disco style song and then sampling it to give it that feel.
